Fred Rogers scholarship awarded to NYU student

Greensburg native Christina Farrell recently was awarded a $10,000 Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship through the Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences Foundation.

Ms. Farrell, a student at New York University whose studies focus on interactive children's media, was one of four honored. Her endowment was made possible by the Grable Foundation.

Joanne Rogers, Mr. Rogers' widow, was among those in attendance at the July 31 ceremony at the Leonard A. Goldensen Theatre in North Hollywood.

"Fred Rogers celebrated children's imaginations and curiosity in a way that enlightened, educated and inspired his young viewers," said Norma Provencio Pichardo, executive director.

Actor David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," hosted the event.
